Handy Gourmet Extendable Turntable Review
Murphy's Refrigerator Law says that whatever you need is shorter than everything in front of it and always at the back of the refrigerator. Today, my refrigerator met its match.Here's what you can't read on the box or know without purchasing it:
1. It comes with five suction cups - one in the middle and one on each corner, that are simple to put on. Or, you can use the five screws that come with it to install it in a cupboard instead of using it in your refrigerator.
2. My refrigerator has adjustable shelves. If yours doesn't, measure the tallest container you think you'd put on it and add 1.25" in order to see if you could fit the container on the turntable with clearance above the container for getting it out of the refrigerator.
3. When it's fully loaded it's quite stiff to turn. Someone with arthritic thumbs might have some difficulty with it. That's why I gave it four stars (but would have given four and a half if I could). I personally don't mind too much that it's stiff, because that way things won't fly off like they could with a turntable that spun easily. But I thought it was worth mentioning.
4. It's roomy. On mine, I fit two full sized pickle bottles, six tall bottles of salad dressing, a large bottle of soy sauce, a jug of maple syrup, a large bottle of salsa, a jar of cocktail sauce and a pint of half and half. See why it's stiff to turn? See why I needed it?
5. It's pretty heavy duty. Not that cheap brittle plastic that so many Lazy Susans are made of.
6. I was able to put everything on it that I had been able to fit on the shelf, so there's no net loss of space and it's much easier to find things.
7. It has a .25" lip to contain any spills.
8. It's stable and it sticks. My refrigerator shelves are glass. I made sure to clean and dry the shelf before putting in the turntable. Before putting anything on it, I tried to pull it up. It didn't budge. Even when it's in the extended position, loaded heavily, the part with suction cups holds firmly. The suction cups have release tabs, so that you can get the turntable off the shelf, but it's not coming off unless you want it to.
After I've had this for a few weeks, I'll come back and update the review. But right now, aside from the stiffness, I can't think of anything that requires a "heads up".
