Before buying this probe cooking thermometer I read many reviews about many different brands and models. I usually start with the negative reviews to see what problems I should be watching for. The reviews for digital probe thermometers almost convinced me to not even buy one. The most alarming problem reported was grossly inaccurate readings, resulting in ruined foods.Soon after I opened the package I brought a deep pot of water to a rolling boil and inserted the probe. It indicated 208 degrees F, within one degree of perfect for my altitude. Since barometric pressure also influences the boiling point, that was closer than I expected, and certainly well within acceptable cooking tolerance. Then I filled a plastic canister with ice just out of the freezer, added enough water to cover the ice, and worked the probe down between the ice cubes. 33 degrees f -- right above freezing, as it should be.
It has a flexible cable that is long enough for any application that we will ever use it for. It is a great addition to our multitasking kitchen tool set. The only problem is finding just the right place to store a coiled-up thermometer. Are there ever enough drawers in a kitchen?
